Ring sizing

Finding the right fit for your ring

A little guide to measuring, resizing and choosing an antique ring that feels just right.

Measure carefully
Ring size can vary slightly depending on band width, temperature and time of day.

Ask before buying
I’m always happy to help with sizing advice before you choose your piece.

Resize with care
Many antique rings can be resized, but some designs need a gentler approach.

How to check your size

The most accurate way to find your ring size is to visit a local jeweller and have your finger professionally measured.

If you already own a ring that fits well, you can also ask a jeweller to measure the inside diameter or size of that ring.

For best results, measure at a normal room temperature and avoid measuring when your hands are very cold or warm.

Antique ring sizing

Antique and vintage rings are often one of a kind, so the listed size is the size currently available unless otherwise stated.

Some rings can be resized by a trusted jeweller, especially simple bands, solitaire rings and many cluster styles.

Rings with full eternity settings, delicate engraving, patterned bands, enamel, closed-back settings or stones around the entire band may be harder, or sometimes unsuitable, to resize.

Before resizing

Please always check with a professional jeweller before committing to a resize, especially with older pieces.

Gold purity, stone settings, age, previous repairs and the style of the ring can all affect what is possible.

Citrine Antique Jewels does not currently offer in-house resizing, but I’m happy to advise on whether a piece looks likely to be suitable.

Between sizes?

If you are between sizes, the right choice may depend on the width and shape of the band.

Wider bands can feel slightly tighter, while very fine bands may feel a little looser on the finger.

Temporary ring adjusters can sometimes help with a slightly loose fit, but they should be used carefully with antique jewellery.

Need a hand?

If you’re unsure about a particular ring, just get in touch before ordering.

I can send extra photos, measurements and any useful notes about the shape, band width or setting to help you decide.

A gentle note: resizing should always be carried out by an experienced jeweller who is comfortable working with antique and vintage pieces.
