Antique citrine and pearl fringe necklace, with 15ct gold clasp

A gorgeous late Victorian to Edwardian citrine and seed pearl fringe necklace, dating to around 1890-1910.

The necklace is formed from a delicate strand of tiny creamy seed pearls, with a graduated fringe of fifteen faceted golden citrine drops suspended individually along the front. The citrines graduate beautifully towards the centre, culminating in a wonderfully substantial central stone. Each stone is individually articulated, allowing the fringe to move and catch the light when worn.

Fringe necklaces became particularly fashionable around the turn of the 20th century, with graduated gemstone drops creating an elegant festoon-like effect around the neckline. This example feels especially lovely with the contrast between the tiny, irregular pearls and warm honey gold citrines. 

Finished with its original elongated 15ct gold barrel/box clasp, clearly stamped 15CT. The little gold fittings between the pearls and citrines complement the warm colour of the stones beautifully.

A really special survivor from the period and one that still feels incredibly wearable today. The citrines have that rich golden colour that looks gorgeous against the softness of the pearls, while the graduated fringe gives it such a distinctive silhouette.
