Antique victorian amethyst and pearl brooch pendant, in 9 carat gold
Antique victorian amethyst and pearl brooch pendant, in 9 carat gold
A graceful antique Victorian brooch centred with glowing amethysts and seed pearls, suspended from a later (hallmarked 1960) gold bow fitting. The original pendant element is formed as an openwork oval drop, delicately set with four richly coloured amethysts arranged in a cruciform or quatrefoil floral cluster, symbolising faith, balance, and harmony. A border of luminous seed pearls traces the outline, adding softness and light to the design, acting as halo and accent stones.
The amethysts, long associated with clarity of mind, protection, and spiritual calm, were especially favoured in the Victorian era for both their beauty and their symbolism. The pearls, emblematic of purity, love and remembrance, enhance the romantic sentiment of the piece. Together, they create a jewel that feels deeply personal and meaningful.
In the mid-20th century, the pendant was thoughtfully adapted with a finely engraved gold bow brooch fitting. The bow symbolises love, unity, and ties that bind, adding a charming layer to the piece, bridging Victorian sentiment with 1960s elegance. This piece is crafted in 9 carat gold, with buttery honey hues throughout. Finished with a safety chain.
