Antique victorian cosmos flower ruby pendant necklace, in 15 carat gold
Antique victorian cosmos flower ruby pendant necklace, in 15 carat gold
Here we have an incredibly beautiful piece from the Victorian era, with lovely openwork details and a bright central flower. A wonderful circular openwork form design, which perfectly frames the flower - an eight petal Cosmos, part of the sunflower family. The Genus name, Cosmos, comes from the Greek word “kosmos” meaning "beautiful", or “harmony”. The flower represents peace and love. In the Victorian language of flowers, Cosmos jewellery symbolised joy in love and life.
The flower has a gorgeous textured detail to it, finely hammered or bevelled, to create depth and a more life-like feel to the figural element. The flower is studded with a vibrant ruby, in a crisp bezel setting, which creates an almost summit-like point. Ruby is the birthstone for July. Hallmarked 15ct to the back.
The chain is a fine curb link, crafted in 9 carat gold measuring 18 inches. Fully UK hallmarked for 9 carat gold, Sheffield Assay office.
