Vintage akoya pearl celestial star earrings, in 9 carat gold
Vintage akoya pearl celestial star earrings, in 9 carat gold
This celestial pair have a wonderful feel to them, a lovely unique design and decorated with two lustrous cultured akoya pearls. Each pearl is carefully lodged in the centre of a solid gold shell, the moon amongst the stars. The shells themselves have a wonderful stippled mesh texture to them, sprinkled with gorgeous little stars which are smooth and polished, to contrast the stippled texture.
Each earring is crafted in buttery 9 carat gold throughout. Delightfully soft and somewhat rosey hues to be seen in certain light throughout the piece, they are incredibly charming and have a magical, feminine feel to them. Both finished with butterfly backs. The earrings themselves are marked on the stem or stud wire, with full hallmarks for year 1971.
Akoya pearls are known for their superb lustre, perfectly round shape and their colour consistency. The process of growing Akoya pearls is complex and time-consuming, they were first cultured in Japan in the 1920s. They are heavily associated with the Moon, with calming effects to the wearer - pearls are also the birthstone for June.
